Antonio can't tell Jessica the truth about his undercover work because of Sara's presence. Kathryn has Paul question Sara and they get a clue about the missing fortune. Paul uses the chaos of the fire to slip away from Kathryn.

Paul says goodbye to Natalie as he prepares to go to Puerto Rico with Kathryn to try and find the missing Santi drug money fortune. Paul, fearful of getting killed, questions John if Kathryn can be trusted. Kathryn warns Paul to follow her orders. John begins to grow suspicious of Kathryn. Antonio wonders if Dorian knows more about the Santi fortune than she's saying. Antonio believes Manuel Santi's missing son could shed some light on the fortune's location. Natalie convinces Jessica to go to the Hook Up with her. Marcie and Michael fail in their quest to warn Antonio that Jessica is going to the Hook Up. Jessica is horrified when she sees Antonio stripping on stage and Antonio is equally horrified when he sees Jessica in the audience.

Kelly turns Paul over to John, who informs him that he is going to infiltrate the Santi organization. Alone with Paul, Kathryn tells him that he is going to help her recover the missing drug money and then keep it for herself.

Kelly denies ever having been at the landfill. John continues to defend Natalie to Kathryn.

At the Hook Up, Paul tells Natalie his life is in danger after learning that members of the Santi crime family are after him for turning state's evidence against them. Paul explains to Natalie how Todd and Kelly buried him in a landfill. Paul begs Natalie to help him when he sees his enemies arriving.

John and Kathryn learn that a car matching Kelly's was seen at the landfill on the night Paul disappeared and they find a bloody pillowcase from Paul's motel room there. Natalie gets a phone call from Paul, who wants to meet with her in person.

Natalie is taken a back to learn that Kathryn is back in Llanview. Natalie covers her feelings for John by pursuing Paul. Paul has no choice but to take Natalie with him. Kathryn and John share an easy rapport and she is reveled to be Caitlin's sister.

John takes Kathryn, his former colleague at the bureau, back to his room. Kathryn explains that her life is in danger and that two people, Kyle and Kay, are looking for her because they believe she stole from them. Kathryn goes on to explain that Paul was the one who stole the money. John goes to Ultra Violet looking for Paul and sees him and Natalie sharing a kiss. John forces Paul to leave with him. Paul convinces Kathryn that he spent most of the money that he stole. After being allowed to leave, Paul implies to Natalie that Kathryn is spending the night with John. Roxy helps Kathryn hide from Kay and Kyle.

Monday, April 5John agrees to join Antonio and Jessica at Rodi's. Avoiding her feelings for John, Natalie makes a date with Paul which surprises Jessica. John warns Paul not to hurt Natalie. John continues to grow weaker and sicker throughout the evening and collapses outside of Rodi's. Jessica finds the prescription pills bottle that John accidentally dropped. Natalie discovers John in the alley and she and Antonio realize that Stephen poisoned his prescription pills. John is rushed to the hospital but Natalie fears he may not survive.
Friday, April 2After a conversation with Roxy, Natalie begins to wonder if she really has a place in the Buchanan family. Jessica, Kevin and Natalie worry that Viki isn't taking care of herself. Kevin unintentionally hurts Natalie's feelings by suggesting that Jessica should move in with Viki for a while. John and Bo work to find out who Stephen might have targeted before he was killed. John takes prescription medication.

Bo fears John's ordeal with Stephen isn't over. An unseen person holds a letter from Stephen addressed to John. Paul is attracted to Natalie and his attraction grows when he learns she is a Buchanan.
Monday, March 29 Antonio and John set out to prove that Stephen drugged and hypnotized the police officer who claimed that John hired him to kill Stephen. Natalie admits to Jessica that she thinks she is falling in love with John. Natalie is arrested for assaulting Jen and placed in a jail cell next to John's.
Friday, March 26 John and Evangeline work on his defense as the evidence against him grows. John is certain that Stephen hypnotized the rogue cop. Jessica gives Antonio the details of how Stephen hypnotized her and reminds him that Stephen used drugs as part of the process. Jen and Natalie get into a fight at Ultraviolet as the police arrive to close down the club.
Thursday, March 25John and Bo watch the videotape of a rogue cop who claims that John hired him to assassinate Stephen. The rogue cop is later found dead, the victim of an apparent suicide. Bo and John wonder if Stephen had hypnotized the cop into doing his bidding. John is booked and jailed. Natalie hires Evangeline to serve as John's lawyer.
Wednesday, March 24Bo enjoys Eve's performance at Capricorn. Antonio, Jessica and Natalie are certain that John will be cleared of Stephen's murder. Nora and Daniel receive incriminating evidence against John. Bo is forced to arrest John for murder.

Bo believes John when he denies shooting Stephen. Antonio and John agree that Stephen could have staged his own death in order to frame John for murder. Daniel is certain that John shot Stephen.

Stephen is shot and seriously wounded by an unseen assailant as he is being lead to his arraignment. Bo is later informed that the gun used to shoot Stephen is registered to John. At the hospital, Stephen accuses John of shooting him in front of Bo, Michael, John and a nurse before he dies.

Natalie is mortified when John pulls back from their kiss. John gently explains to Natalie that he isn't ready to get involved in a relationship. Natalie and John agree to remain friends. John, Natalie, Shannon, Michael and Marcie attend Eve's performance at Capricorn. John decides to remain in Llanview and accepts Bo's job offer. Bo informs Stephen that assault charges will not be filed against John. Stephen gives his lawyer an envelope containing instructions and steals his cell phone. Stephen calls Jessica and says a strange goodbye to her. Antonio reports the call to Bo. Stephen calls an unseen person with seemingly dangerous instructions about what to do to John.

Bo offers John a job with the Llanview Police Department. Natalie surprises John in his motel room after he forgets their dinner date and impulsively kisses John. Eve moves in with Roxy at the cottage. Eve thanks Bo for saving her life and invites him to her concert at Capricorn.

Stephen deliberately injures himself in his jail cell and then accuses John of assault. Furious over being suspected, John announces that he's leaving the FBI.
Monday, March 15 John protects Stephen from the assassin, who turns out to be the father of one of Stephen's victims. John is suspended from the FBI after Stephen accuses him of misconduct during his arrest. The victims of the Music Box Killer are remembered at an impromptu memorial service in Angel Square. John assures Natalie that Stephen will never be able to hurt her again. Natalie is moved when she witnesses John talking to Caitlin's spirit in church.

John threatens to arrest Asa for bringing a rifle into the police station. Stephen accuses Asa of threatening his life. Bo is furious with Asa for almost ruining their case against Stephen. An unseen person aims their gun at Stephen.

Stephen's lawyer tells Bo and John that Stephen is going for an insanity plea and will never spend one day in jail. Asa brings John a rifle at the police station and asks him to kill Stephen. Eve agrees to be Roxy's roommate at the cottage. River agrees to be Eve's accompanist when she performs at Capricorn.

John is horrified to find Natalie wired to an explosive device, which Stephen threatens to detonate at any time. John uses a secret weapon to shake Stephen's confidence and John is able to overpower Stephen, who is arrested. John disarms the bomb and saves Natalie's life. Jessica confronts Stephen at the police station.

Bo and John learn that Natalie left the safe house. Stephen drugs Natalie, who is devastated to learn that the news about Cristian was a sick ploy by Stephen to get her out of the safe house. Stephen calls John and tells him to go to the airport but leaves with Natalie before John arrives. John finds Stephen playing the piano in the lobby of the Angel Square Hotel. Stephen informs John that he turned Natalie into a human time bomb and threatens to detonate it with his remote control device. Bo rescues Eve before she drowns to death.

Bo and John question Stephen's mother, Marlena, who is hesitant to cooperate with them. Stephen leaves Eve to drown to death. Thinking Cristian is alive, Natalie goes to the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas. Stephen surprises Natalie at the airport.

Antonio, Bo and John watch Jessica as she waits to meet the killer on the pier. Bo, John and Antonio attack a man approaching Jessica, but he is only delivering a package. John opens the package and finds a jack-in-the-box with a taunting note. Eve calls Natalie and tells her that Cristian is alive in a hospital in Nevada. Natalie sneaks out of the safe house determined to get to Cristian. The killer holds Eve hostage and it is clear he forced her to call Natalie.

The killer decides to make Natalie his next victim. Natalie convinces Jessica to speak with Dr. Paulsen. After being given truth serum, Jessica remembers that the killer hypnotized her and made her believe that John and Antonio would hurt her. Dr. Paulsen removes the killer's control over Jessica, who has a loving reunion with Antonio. With Jessica's help, John sets a trap for the killer, who instructs Jessica to meet him at a pier the following evening. The killer senses that something is going on and later confronts Eve.

John takes Jessica and Natalie to the safe house. Antonio continues to be worried about Jessica's behavior and he and John consider the possibility that the killer hypnotized her. The killer calls Jessica and asks her to tell him where she and Natalie are. John, however, has tapped Jessica's phone and is taping the conversation.

John arranges for tight security at the church during Cristian's memorial service. The killer calls John during the service and implies that he is watching the proceedings. John discovers a surveillance camera hidden at Natalie's cottage. John learns that the killer's mother Marlena is alive. Cristian's family and friends speak lovingly about him. Antonio notices that Jessica is behaving strangely.

The killer takes Jessica to a cabin in the mountains. Jessica calls Bo, who urges her to come to the police station with the killer. The killer drugs Jessica's tea and she passes out. When Jessica regains consciousness, she realizes she is locked inside the cabin. Meanwhile, the killer goes to speak with Bo and John and provides them with alibis for the times of the Music Box killings. Bo and John are forced to release the killer when they can't bring charges against him. Michael, Marcie and Natalie have lunch with Eve.

John investigates a clinic in New Jersey where he, Bo and Nora think the killer might have taken Rae but finds the building burned to the ground. John has a nightmare about Caitlin being shot but in his dream, Caitlin turns into Natalie. Natalie senses something is wrong when she goes to see Jessica and later tells John. When John and Natalie return to the loft, there is no sign of Jessica but John finds Caitlin's driver's license and realizes the killer wanted him to know he had been there.

John realizes why the killer has a personal vendetta against him. John and Bo question Troy. John gets Troy to admit that the killer controlled his mind and arranged for his trips out of prison. Natalie doesn't think she will ever be able to move on from Cristian but surprises herself when she has an erotic fantasy about John.

Natalie gets a frightening call from the killer. Natalie and Jessica call Blair when they learn that Starr got in to a fight at school when she defended Todd.
